Meet Three Amazing Elephants Living Their Best Lives
In the heart of Krabi’s Elephant Sanctuary, three incredible elephants have turned their lives around from hardship to happiness. Each with their own unique story, these gentle giants now thrive in a sanctuary filled with love and joy.
Mallay, the largest and most experienced at 52 years old, was rescued from a camp in Krabi where she suffered a broken rib. Now, she’s surrounded by care and affection, embodying both strength and grace as she enjoys her newfound freedom.
Bungah, or “Booboo” as she’s affectionately known, is 38 years old and was saved from near the Malaysia border. Her playful spirit and charming personality have made her a beloved figure at the sanctuary, where she brings smiles to all who meet her.
Cuncun, at 32, is the sanctuary’s energetic and playful youngster. She never misses a chance to have fun and engage with visitors, always eager to play and spread joy.
These three elephants have found a safe haven where they are celebrated every day, and their stories of recovery and joy are a testament to the sanctuary’s mission of love and care. Come along and see how these amazing animals live their best lives, surrounded by the love of visitors and the dedicated caregivers who make it all possible.

A Heartwarming Christmas Gift at Krabi’s Elephant Sanctuary
Our kids surprised us with a fantastic Christmas gift—a visit to what they called the best elephant sanctuary in Krabi. We were excited and looked forward to the day. Early in the morning, a comfortable van took us swiftly to the sanctuary. This quality time with them was a real treasure, especially since we hadn’t seen each other since we began our travels. Sharing this experience at the sanctuary made for a truly perfect day.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the sanctuary’s owner, who then led us to a large hall. There, we joined a group of ten people, including ourselves, for a delightful breakfast at a big table. The meal included muffins, bananas, a few kinds of juices, and several types of cookies. As we enjoyed our breakfast, we listened to the owner share the touching story of the sanctuary and its remarkable elephants. It was the perfect way to start our visit, setting the stage for a day filled with joy and discovery.

A Heartwarming Welcome: Breakfast and Stories at the Elephant Sanctuary
After a delicious breakfast and an insightful introduction on how to interact with the elephants, show them affection, and feed them, we hopped into an open truck to meet Mallay, Booboo, and Cuncun. Excitement was high as we couldn’t wait to finally meet the elephants we had heard so much about. The ride was a bit bumpy but fun, and standing up in the back of the truck was a new and exhilarating experience!

We arrived at the jungle, emerging from the deep jungle into a vast field of lush palms and greenery—it felt like stepping into a movie. The owner began calling the elephants by name, and one by one, they started to appear. We had a big stack of bananas ready and were excited to meet and feed them. The elephants were enormous, their eyes fixed on the bananas. Feeding them was an incredible experience; these majestic animals displayed immense affection and curiosity. They weren’t afraid of us but looked at us with gentle, loving eyes.

I held the bananas and called the elephants over so we could feed them and show them our love.

Feeding the elephants was an incredible experience. Watching them open their mouths and blink their eyes as if to thank us for the love and care was heartwarming. They were like playful little kids, eager to eat and interact. It was truly an amazing experience.

We made sure to capture all the unforgettable moments with the elephants in photos and video. We’re thrilled to have these beautiful experiences documented. To watch our full day at The Elephant Sanctuary Krabi Thailand, check our YouTube channel!
Say the magic word “bananas,” and watch the elephants come running toward you!

Can we ride the elephants?
No riding here! This is a sanctuary, and it’s all about the elephants’ well-being. When you visit, you work for them, and they enjoy the experience. The elephants don’t work for you or take you places—they’re here to be cared for and loved.
Elephant Trails: A Memorable Jungle Walk
After we met the elephants and fed them bananas, we took a walk with them through the jungle. The elephants showed us their daily paths, leading us on their regular routes. And guess what we did next? Yes, we went to feed them again! This time, we had prepared their food ourselves, adding an extra special touch to the experience.

A Day in the Life of Elephants: What You Need to Know
Elephants have a fascinating routine that’s quite different from what you might expect. They typically sleep only 4-5 hours a night and spend much of their day napping. Their early rising is driven by their constant hunger. An adult elephant can consume up to 10% of its body weight each day—about 300 kg of food as a minimum, though they can eat throughout the day with no real maximum limit. Their daily poop can weigh between 7-10 kg!
Their diet is diverse and includes grass, bananas, mangoes, coconuts, durian, and special nutritious. Interestingly, bananas seem to hold a special place in their world, having the power to influence their behavior and interactions.

To keep elephants happy and healthy, they need four key things:
1. Food: They need a constant supply of nourishing food to keep them satisfied.
2. Fun: Elephants enjoy playtime and activities that stimulate their minds and bodies.
3. Companionship: Like us, they benefit from having social interactions and relationships.
4. Freedom: They need space to roam and explore freely.
Interactions with elephants are truly special. They respond to your tone of voice and can sense the kind of person they are interacting with. They enjoy playing in water and mud, and feeding them is an experience filled with joy and connection. Watching them engage with their environment and with people is a reminder of their intelligence and emotional depth.

We were given ingredients to prepare the best food using a special formula from their daily menu. The ingredients included rice, of course bananas, and two types of nutrition supplements—one in powder form and the other as granules. Mixing everything with our hands created quite a mess, but in the end, the food turned out great!

Here’s the final product, ready for the elephants to enjoy. When we got near them, they eagerly opened their mouths, especially when they heard the magic word, “Aoouuummmmm”.

“Aoouuummmmm”.

After spending some time feeding the elephants, which was truly the best experience ever, they were ready to play—and you won’t believe where they wanted to go. Into the mud! Elephants love to get messy; it’s their favorite game. They roll around in the mud and enjoy being massaged with it. What a messy experience, but also incredibly fun to watch!

Look at how messy they are! They absolutely love their mud pool, and of course, they don’t hesitate to splash us with mud—no kidding!

After their messy game, it was time for a shower. They enjoyed their shower time just as much as the mud pool. They were so happy and stayed under the shower until the owner brought out a beach ball. As soon as they saw it, they eagerly followed him!

It was time for the pool! The elephants were overjoyed, splashing around, laying down, and playing in the water. They loved having us pour water over them and seemed to be having as much fun as we were. What a day it was, filled with joy and laughter for everyone involved!

After their playful time in the pool, the elephants went back to eating, and it was our turn to enjoy some snacks. We had fruits and muffins before heading back to the hotel. It was the best day, spent with our kids and the elephants, and we had an absolutely fantastic time.
The coconut was incredibly refreshing, and it was straight from the jungle, the elephants’ home. It added a special touch to our day!

After traveling full-time, spending time with the kids was all we wanted for Christmas. Merry Christmas! It truly is the best time of the year!
