Our Experience Staying at Two Hotels in Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten

SINT MAARTEN QUICK GUIDE

Sint Maarten blends Caribbean beaches with European flair. The island is shared by two nations, offering a mix of cultures, cuisines, and beach styles — all within short driving distances.

Best time to visit December to April brings dry weather and warm days. Late spring is quieter with better hotel deals.

Good to know Renting a car is the easiest way to explore both sides of the island. Life moves slow — embrace it and enjoy the island rhythm.

When we were searching for a hotel in Sint Maarten , we knew we wanted to stay on the Dutch side, close to Simpson Bay and Maho Beach. After comparing several options, our choice was clear.

We decided on the Simpson Bay Resort, Marina & Spa, and it turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The resort offers spacious rooms, a beautiful pool, and beachfront views right in front of the hotel.

Its location made everything easy. Restaurants, beaches, and transportation were all nearby, giving us the perfect base to explore the island while still enjoying a relaxed resort stay.

Staying at Simpson Bay Resort, Marina & Spa

Simpson Bay Resort, Marina & Spa is a great choice if you want comfort, a central location, and beautiful ocean views in Sint Maarten. The resort is located right in Simpson Bay and offers spacious rooms with private balconies, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the Caribbean scenery.

One of the biggest advantages is the location. Restaurants, nightlife, and popular spots like Maho Beach are all close by, making it easy to explore the island without long drives. It is a convenient and relaxing place to stay while discovering Sint Maarten.

The pool and outdoor area

The hotel’s pool was beautiful and surrounded by plenty of beach chairs, making it easy to relax during the day. There were also tables for lunch or dinner, where you could enjoy a smoothie while watching the sunset and taking in the ocean views.

Our ocean view room

We stayed in an ocean view room with a large balcony, complete with a table and chairs. Each morning, we enjoyed a cup of tea while taking in the beautiful views and listening to the waves and birds before heading out to explore the island.

Comfort and room details

The room was spacious and featured a large queen bed with four pillows, which was perfect for us. Daniel prefers tall pillows, while I like flat ones, and the hotel provided both, so we were both comfortable. The mattress was soft, which was a nice change from the harder mattresses we experienced in Thailand. The room was clean, well maintained, and decorated with charming coral paintings.

Non smoking policy and kitchen

Another reason we chose this hotel was its non smoking policy and the in room kitchen with an oven and dining table. We like to prepare our own breakfast or cook simple meals, so having a kitchen is always a bonus, even if we do not end up using it.

Working and our overall stay

Since we work on the road, having a desk is important to us, and this hotel met our needs. The chair was not the most comfortable, but it worked well enough for us to get our work done.

We really enjoyed our stay and spent a full week at the hotel. From there, we went island hopping to Anguilla, one of our favorite Caribbean destinations.

Mary’s Boon Beach Plantation Resort & Spa

We chose Mary’s Boon Beach Plantation Resort & Spa mainly for its location. It is just a 10 minute drive from the airport and close to the famous Maho Beach, which made it perfect for a short stay.

Since we were only there briefly, amenities were not a priority. All we needed was easy beach access and a convenient location to continue our island hopping plans.

A special furry friend

We met a very special friend at the hotel who made our stay even more memorable. He was a friendly and lovable dog who greeted us every day and always wanted to be petted.

Whenever we left for our adventures, he watched us go and waited for our return. He was one of the sweetest dogs we have met during our travels, and we still miss his happy smile.

The beach experience

The beach was absolutely beautiful and became the place where we spent most of our time. The water was warm and clear, and the sand was soft and white.

The hotel provided comfortable beach chairs and loungers, making it easy to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Our next island adventure

We really enjoyed our stay, but we were excited for our next adventure. We were heading to Saba Island to land on one of the world’s shortest runways.
