Best Hawker Centers in Singapore

The Hawker Centers promised to be the ultimate culinary experience here in Singapore. We had an abundance of options, ranging from irresistible street food to exotic cuisine from around the world. Each time we visited a Hawker Center, we indulged in a feast for the senses. Long communal tables created an atmosphere of togetherness and allowed us to mingle with locals and fellow foodies from all over the world. In fact, we made lasting friendships over plates of delectable dishes. To this day, we still keep in touch with some of the people we met at the Hawker Centers. If you’re a foodie looking for an authentic Singapore experience, a visit to the Hawker Centers is a must!

Maxwell Food Centre

Maxwell Food Centre was the first hawker center we visited, conveniently located near our accommodation. Staying close to great dining spots and activities is always a big plus when booking a hotel—it makes exploring and enjoying your trip so much easier! We even wrote a blog on Where to Stay for the Best of Singapore to help you find the perfect stay.

Located at 1 Kadayanallur Street and is open daily from 8 AM to 2 AM. It is only a 2-minute walk away from the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, making it a convenient stop for those visiting the temple.

Upon arrival at Maxwell Food Centre we were impressed by its clean and organized appearance. We walked past the various food stalls, each one tempting us with their unique offerings. But our goal was clear – to try the famous Hainanese chicken and rice. We finally found the stall and eagerly placed our order. The moment the steaming plate of chicken and rice was placed in front of us, our mouths started to water. We took our first bite and were blown away by the tender and juicy chicken that literally melted in our mouths. The Hainanese chicken and rice dish at Maxwell Food Center is ranging from $2 to $3 dollars.

Hainanese Chicken Rice

As we enjoyed every bite of our Hainanese chicken and rice at Maxwell Food Center, a friendly lady approached us with a friendly smile and invited us to try her dish of the day – chicken feet and rice. We didn’t want to disappoint her and decided to give it a try. At first, we were hesitant to try the chicken feet dish, but the lady’s explanation about its benefits as an anti-aging food, being full of collagen, intrigued us. To our surprise, it tasted just like regular chicken. It seems like there is more to this dish than just its appearance. It’s good to try new foods and expand your palate.

Chomp Chomp Food Centre

Chomp Chomp Food Centre is famous for its BBQ Wings, with one of the most popular being Chong Pang Huat. The line moves quickly as they grill the wings fresh, and they are packaged in heat-retaining paper bags to maintain their crispiness and with an eco-friendly approach. Don’t forget their delicious chili sauce!

The Chomp Chomp Food Centre can be found at 20 Kensington Road in Singapore and operates from 4 PM to 12:30 AM.

Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre

Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre is considered the best hawker center, though locals refer to it as the most crowded spot. This hawker center offers a unique and authentic Singaporean food experience, housed within one of the city’s most iconic buildings. We came across a unique and intriguing dish at the famous Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre. The dish was called Herbal Black Chicken Soup and we were curious to try it. The lady at the stall explained to us that black chicken, also known as silkie chicken, is a special type of chicken with black skin, meat, and bones. It is highly sought after in Chinese cuisine for its rich nutritional content. We were told that this soup is often enjoyed by those who are feeling under the weather or recovering from an illness. And so, we decided to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised by the warm and comforting flavors of this traditional dish.
