As soon as our plane touched down at Kaohsiung International Airport, we were greeted by a stunning display of sunflowers stretching out before us. It was as if the flowers were welcoming us, signaling the start of an unforgettable adventure through the vibrant island of Taiwan. Little did we know, this was just the beginning of a journey filled with captivating culture, mouthwatering cuisine, and breathtaking natural beauty.

Where to Stay in Kaohsiung?
Kaohsiung has something for everyone when it comes to places to stay, with options to fit every budget and style. We decided to stay at The Ambassador Hotel Kaohsiung, located along the scenic Love River and conveniently near the Pier-2 Art Center, with Liuhe Night Market just a short walk away. This hotel was a fantastic choice—our room featured a stunning river view and was clean, charming, and spacious, equipped with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay.
It truly served as the perfect base for exploring Kaohsiung’s top attractions. With easy access to vibrant cultural sites and delicious dining options, we could fully immerse ourselves in the local experience.

Love River
Love River is one of the most picturesque true romantic paradises, where you can hire a boat and sail through a sea of twinkling lights. The river is also lined with numerous delightful restaurants, allowing you to indulge in the rich local flavors as you soak in the enchanting atmosphere. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely boat ride or savoring a delicious meal by the water, Love River offers an unforgettable experience for couples and travelers alike.


Dinner on the Love River
On our first night, we were determined to try some traditional Taiwanese dishes alongside the Love River, which is lined with charming restaurants.
The atmosphere was incredibly romantic, adorned with heart-shaped lights and accompanied by the gentle sounds of Taiwanese music. Our chosen restaurant was lit by flickering candles that cast a warm glow over the open-air tables. The food was absolutely delicious, and we loved every bite while enjoying a picturesque view of passing boats and couples relishing their own intimate evenings.
Every moment was infused with the vibrant spirit of the city, making our dinner an unforgettable experience that perfectly set the tone for our culinary adventure through Taiwan.

Pier2 Art Center
This cultural complex is an artistic oasis, where every corner is a canvas waiting to be painted with new experiences. From galleries to shops and cafes, it’s a place where creativity flows and inspiration abounds. Make sure to snap a few pictures, as this place is a true Instagram paradise.

Pier 2 Warehouses
If you love art or just want to explore somewhere new, the Pier 2 Warehouses are right next to the lively Pier 2 Art Center in Kaohsiung. This area is filled with colorful murals and artworks on the walls, making it a perfect spot for taking photos you’ll want to share on Instagram.
As you walk around, you’ll see people enjoying the art and capturing its beauty. The atmosphere is lively and full of energy, with locals and tourists coming together to appreciate the creativity that fills this space. While you explore the warehouses, don’t miss the cozy cafes where you can relax and enjoy a coffee surrounded by art-inspired decor.


Dragon and Tiger Pagodas
These two mystical towers at Lotus Lake are steeped in legend. According to the tale, if you enter through the dragon’s mouth and exit through the tiger’s mouth, your problems will be solved. It’s a beautiful and fun place, perfect for families and travelers. Best of all, visiting the dragons and pagodas is free!


The Lotus Pond
Lotus Pond is a lovely place to visit. This artificial lake offers a nice walking path where you can enjoy beautiful views. It’s perfect for a picnic or a relaxing day out. Located near the dragons and pagodas, you can easily explore both attractions at the same time.

The Spring and Autumn Pavilion
The Taoist temple complex on the serene waters of Lotus Lake has a unique charm that is truly captivating. These pavilions showcase stunning architectural beauty and spiritual significance, serving as a treasure trove of history and culture. They are for anyone interested in local heritage.

Dome of Light
The Dome of Light, located at Formosa Boulevard Station in Kaohsiung, is a breathtaking art installation and one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in the city. This stunning dome measures 30 meters in diameter and is composed of approximately 4,500 glass pieces, making it the largest glass artwork in the world.
Designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata, the Dome of Light took over four and a half years to complete. Its vibrant light displays change continuously, captivating visitors and inviting them to pause and admire the beauty.
If you’re looking to catch a special light show, the Dome of Light offers a two-minute display at specific times. From Monday to Thursday, shows take place at 11 AM, 3 PM, and 8 PM. On Fridays, there’s an additional show at 7 PM, while on weekends, you can enjoy five shows at 11 AM, 3 PM, 5 PM, 7 PM, and 8 PM.
The area surrounding the dome is spacious and welcoming, providing a perfect spot for travelers to relax and soak in the artistic atmosphere.

Cijin Island
